Setting Up Your First Menu

Welcome to Tacoter! Getting your delicious food online for your customers to order is super easy. This guide will walk you through setting up your very first menu, so you can start taking orders right away.

There are two main ways to add your menu items: you can build it yourself from scratch, or you can use our smart Menu Scanner. Both methods get your menu online fast.

Option 1: Build Your Menu Manually

This is great if you want to add each item carefully or don't have a clean photo of your current menu.

  1. Go to the Menu Section: Log in to your Tacoter dashboard and click on Menu in the left-hand navigation. [[screenshot: Dashboard navigation showing the 'Menu' link highlighted]]
  2. Create Categories: First, you'll want to organize your menu. Think about sections like "Tacos," "Burritos," "Sides," or "Drinks." Click to create a new category and give it a name.
  3. Add Menu Items: Inside each category, you'll add your individual dishes. For each item, you'll need to:
  4. Name: Give it a clear name (e.g., "Carne Asada Taco").
  5. Description: Write a short, mouth-watering description. (Remember, Tacoter can even help you write these!)
  6. Price: Enter the price for this item.
  7. Photo: Upload a beautiful photo of your dish. A good photo makes a huge difference!
  8. Repeat: Keep adding categories and items until your menu is complete.

Option 2: Use the Menu Scanner

This is often the fastest way to get started if you have a current printed menu. Let our AI do the heavy lifting!

  1. Access the Scanner: From your Tacoter dashboard, go to Menu and then click on Scanner.
  2. Upload Your Menu: You can either upload a photo of your printed menu or a PDF document. Make sure it's clear and readable for the best results. [[screenshot: Menu Scanner page with options to upload photo or PDF]]
  3. AI Extraction: Our smart system will then read your menu and pull out all the categories, item names, descriptions, and prices it can find. This usually takes just a moment.
  4. Review and Approve: You'll see a review screen with all the items our AI found. This is your chance to:
  5. Check: Make sure everything looks correct.
  6. Edit: Fix any mistakes in names, descriptions, or prices.
  7. Add Photos: Upload photos for each item.
  8. Generate Descriptions: If you need help with descriptions, Tacoter can write them for you based on the item name!

Going Live!

The best part? Once you've added or approved your menu items in the dashboard, they appear instantly on your public online ordering site. No waiting, no publishing button – your customers can start ordering immediately!

Tips

  • High-Quality Photos: Good photos make your food look irresistible. Use natural light if possible!
  • Clear Descriptions: Let customers know what they're getting. Highlight key ingredients or unique flavors.
  • Keep it Updated: If you change prices or add specials, update your menu in Tacoter right away.
  • Use AI for Descriptions: Don't be shy about using Tacoter's AI to generate descriptions if you're short on time or ideas.
  • Review Your Menu: Take a look at your online menu from a customer's perspective. Is it easy to navigate? Does everything look appetizing?
