Adding Categories
You’ve got incredible food, and we want to help your customers find it easily on your online menu! Adding categories helps organize your offerings, making it simple for hungry customers to browse and order their favorites.
Why Use Categories?
Imagine walking into your taqueria and seeing everything perfectly organized. That’s what categories do for your online menu! They group similar items together – like all your delicious tacos under "Tacos" or your refreshing drinks under "Bebidas." This makes the ordering process smoother and faster for your customers, which means more happy orders for you.
How to Add a New Category
Adding a new category is quick and easy.
- Log in to your Tacoter Dashboard: This is where you manage everything for your restaurant.
- From the main menu on the left, click on Menu. This will take you to your kitchen's digital blueprint. [[screenshot: Tacoter Dashboard with "Menu" highlighted on the left sidebar]]
- On the Menu page, look for a button or option that says something like "Add Category" or a plus sign (+). Click it!
- A new window or section will appear, asking for your category details.
- Category Name: This is important! Give it a clear name like "Tacos," "Burritos," "Sides," or "Bebidas." This is what your customers will see.
- Description (Optional): You can add a short description here if you like. For example, under "Specials," you might write "Our chef's seasonal creations!" or under "Desserts," you could put "A sweet end to any meal."
- Once you’ve filled in the name (and optional description), click "Save" or "Create Category." [[screenshot: Add Category form with fields for Name and Description, and a Save button]] Voila! Your new category is now part of your menu.
Reordering Your Categories
First impressions matter! You can arrange your categories so your most popular or important sections appear at the top of your online menu.
- On the Menu page of your Dashboard, you'll see a list of all your categories.
- Look for an icon next to each category name that looks like an up/down arrow, a stack of dots, or similar. This is your reorder handle.
- Click and hold down on this handle next to the category you want to move.
- Drag the category up or down to its new position in the list.
- Release the mouse button. The list will automatically update. [[screenshot: List of categories with reorder handles and a "Hide" toggle]] Your changes are usually saved automatically, or you might see a "Save Order" button to confirm.
Hiding a Category
Sometimes you might run out of an item or want to temporarily remove a whole section without deleting it forever. Tacoter makes it easy to hide a category.
- On the Menu page, find the category you want to hide.
- Next to each category, you'll usually see a toggle switch or a checkbox labeled "Visible" or "Show/Hide."
- Click this switch or uncheck the box to turn off visibility for that category. It will no longer appear on your public online menu, but all its contents and settings will remain saved in your Dashboard.
- When you're ready to bring it back, simply toggle the switch back on!
Tips
- Keep category names clear and concise.
- Put your top-selling categories (like Tacos or Burritos) at the very top of your list for easy customer access.
- Use descriptions to highlight specialties or explain what's unique about a category.
- Don't be afraid to hide seasonal categories when they're not available – it keeps your menu fresh and accurate!
