Marking Items as Sold Out
Sometimes, things run out. Maybe you've sold every last taco al pastor, or you're out of your special horchata for the day. This guide shows you how to quickly mark items as "Sold Out" on Tacoter, so your customers always see an accurate menu and don't order something you can't provide.
It's super easy to do, and it helps keep your customers happy by preventing them from ordering items that aren't available. When an item is marked as sold out, it will show as unavailable on your online menu, and customers won't be able to add it to their cart.
How to Mark an Item as Sold Out
Follow these simple steps to update your menu items:
- Log in to Your Tacoter Dashboard First things first, open your web browser and go to your Tacoter dashboard. You'll use the same login information you always do. [[screenshot: Tacoter dashboard login page]]
- Go to Your Menu Management Once logged in, look for the "Menu" or "Menu Items" section in your dashboard's navigation. This is usually on the left-hand side or at the top. Click on it to see all your delicious offerings. [[screenshot: Dashboard navigation with "Menu" highlighted]]
- Find the Item You Want to Mark as Sold Out Scroll through your list of menu items until you find the specific dish or drink you've run out of. You can also use a search bar if you have many items.
- Toggle the Availability Switch Next to each menu item, you'll see a switch or toggle button that controls its availability. This is usually labeled something like "Available" or "On/Off". To mark the item as sold out, simply click this switch to turn it OFF. [[screenshot: Menu item list with an availability toggle next to an item]]
- When the switch is OFF, the item is marked as sold out.
- When the switch is ON, the item is available for customers to order.
- Save Your Changes (if prompted) Depending on your dashboard setup, you might need to click a "Save" or "Update" button after changing the availability. If you see one, make sure to click it so your changes go live immediately on your customer-facing menu.
That's it! The item will now appear as unavailable on your Tacoter online ordering site. Your customers will see that it's out and won't be able to order it.
Bringing an Item Back When Restocked
Got a new batch of churros fresh out of the fryer? Great! To make an item available again:
- Repeat steps 1-3 above to navigate back to the item in your menu management.
- Toggle the availability switch ON.
- Save your changes if necessary.
The item will instantly reappear on your menu, ready for customers to order!
Tips
- Daily Check-In: Make it a good practice to quickly review your menu availability at the end of each day or before opening for a new shift. This ensures everything is accurate for the next day.
- Prevent Frustration: Marking items sold out quickly helps prevent customers from ordering something only to be told it's unavailable. This keeps them happy and coming back!
- Seasonal Items: This feature is also perfect for seasonal specials or items that are only available for a limited time. Just toggle them off when they're gone!
- Training Your Team: Show your staff how to do this! Anyone who knows your inventory can help keep your online menu accurate.
