Connecting a Custom Domain

Tired of sharing a generic Tacoter link for your online orders? Give your customers a seamless experience by using your very own website address, like tacoselsol.com! This guide will walk you through connecting your existing domain to Tacoter, so customers can find you easily.

Using your own domain makes your taqueria look professional and trustworthy. It also helps customers remember your online ordering site, making it easier for them to reorder their favorite dishes.

Option 1: You Already Own a Domain Name (like tacoselsol.com)

If you've already bought a domain name from a service like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains, follow these simple steps to link it to your Tacoter online ordering site.

  1. Log in to your Tacoter Dashboard. This is where you manage everything for your restaurant.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click on Settings.
  3. Look for the section titled "Custom Domain" or "Connect Your Domain."
  4. Enter your full domain name (e.g., tacoselsol.com) into the provided field and click "Save" or "Connect."

  1. Tacoter will then show you specific "DNS records" you need to add. These are like instructions that tell the internet where to find your Tacoter site when someone types your domain name. It will look like a set of codes or addresses. Keep this page open!

  1. Open a new browser tab or window and log in to the website where you bought your domain (your "registrar"). This might be GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, etc.
  2. Once logged in to your registrar, find the section for managing your domain's "DNS settings," "DNS records," or "Advanced DNS." This might be under a "My Domains" or "Domain Management" area.
  3. You'll need to add the DNS records that Tacoter showed you in step 5. This usually involves creating new "A records" or "CNAME records" and pasting the information Tacoter provided. Don't worry if it looks technical; just copy the details exactly. If you're unsure, your domain provider's help section usually has guides on how to add DNS records.
  4. After you've added the records at your domain provider, head back to your Tacoter Dashboard and click "Verify" or "Done" (or wait for Tacoter to check automatically, depending on the system).

What happens next?

Once you've updated your DNS records, it takes a little time for these changes to spread across the internet. This process, called "DNS propagation," can take anywhere from a few minutes to up to 48 hours. During this time, your custom domain might not work immediately. Please be patient!

Tacoter will automatically set up a secure connection (an SSL certificate) for your custom domain. This means your site will show "https://" and a little lock icon, assuring your customers their information is safe.

Option 2: You Don't Have a Domain Yet (and want one!)

No problem! If you haven't bought a domain name yet, Tacoter can help you get one directly.

  1. Log in to your Tacoter Dashboard.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click on Settings.
  3. Look for the section titled "Custom Domain" or "Connect Your Domain."
  4. You'll see an option like "Buy a New Domain Through Tacoter" or "Purchase Domain." Click on it.
  5. Follow the prompts to search for and purchase your desired domain name. This will often involve checking if your chosen name (like tacoselsol.com) is available and then completing the purchase.
